Priory Road Residential

What is Priory Road?

Sheffield Alcohol Advisory Service's Priory Road Project is a residential unit with facilities to care for up to 6 men and women with alcohol related problems.

Priory Road is a detached house with gardens to the front and rear. There are 4 single rooms and 1 double, 2 bathrooms, a shower, separate toilet, lounge, dining room and utility room.

We strive to maintain the highest standards of material care to the house and garden.

Who is Priory Road For?

Anyone over 18 with an alcohol related problem who wishes to benefit from a period free from alcohol and drugs. An absolute 'dry' rule applies in the house. The residents are given notice to quit if they have an alcoholic drink on or off the premises. No-one including staff and visitors, is allowed on the premises if they have had an alcoholic drink that day.

What happens in Priory Road?

There are a number of compulsory groups each week. Some of these explore areas of life and social skills etc. One group is a house meeting which decides business relevant to the household. The number of groups varies in response to the needs of current residents. Individual or joint counselling is arranged by mutual agreement.

Residents live at Priory Road for up to 12 months in a dry environment and with help from other residents and staff attempt to formulate realistic and achievable plans for their immediate future and to build the confidence to carry them out.

Residents take responsibility for their shopping, cooking and cleaning under the supervision of the staff as part of the process of gaining confidence in life skills and to make living at Priory Road as realistic as possible. It is part of the ethos of the house that residents take as much part in the decision making process as possible.

Staffing at Priory Road:

3 staff work approximately office hours and are on call evenings and weekends - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Referrals:

Both men and women are welcome at Priory Road.

Referrals are taken from all statutory and voluntary agencies and we also welcome self referrals.

The referral procedure involves telephoning or writing to Priory Road. A member of staff will visit the individual to discuss mutual requirements. Suitable people will then have an assessment by a qualified assessor in order to obtain social services funding. Once funding is secured and if everyone is in agreement, the individual can move in as soon as there is a vacancy.

Intending Residents Must:

  1. Be 'dry' for at least 4 days prior to entry into Priory Road
  2. Be willing to discuss any medication with staff as some medicines are not permitted in the house
  3. Be willing to discuss any pending court cases with staff before entering the house

Living at Priory Road Will Give You:

  • An opportunity to stand back and review your life
  • A chance to reshape your lifestyle as you want
  • A time to make some decisions for yourself
  • A way to learn to enjoy life without a drink
